OPPORTUNITIES
Let’s Harness the Power of Regional Growth
Our strong resilient community is growing with a steady influx of new residents that bring diverse skills, fresh perspectives, and an eagerness to participate in local life. This infusion of people naturally revitalizes neighborhood volunteer groups, community boards, and local initiatives.
Bridging community & culture
As a deeply rooted Franco-Ontarian region welcoming new English- and French-speaking residents alike, the township has a prime opportunity to build inclusive community spaces. Community building often starts at the table. By expanding farmers’ markets, community sharing experiences, and seasonal festivals, the township can turn its rich agricultural landscape into a social hub.
More than a route between Ottawa and Montreal
Let’s build our local economy by creating dedicated spaces for local trades, artisans and growers and for new services, recreation and entertainment for our aging population. This encourages not only residents to invest directly in their neighbors, keeping economic benefits within the township but also builds a strong sense of belonging, as Alfred and Plantaganet grow from being a bedroom community and affordable space to a thriving hub.

Modernize zoning by-laws and foster economic development
Let’s lower red tape and promote new business. Let’s Modernize zoning bylaws to make it easy and faster for developers to build new housing and for homeowners to build basement apartments, granny flats, or garden suites to create affordable rental options for young people and seniors, while providing homeowners with extra income to pay their mortgages.

Encourage community gathering
From the Jessup’s Falls Conservation Area to the Ottawa River shoreline and local recreational trails, the township boasts incredible natural assets that are ripe for community activation.

Proactive infrastructure planning
Shifting from a “fix when broken” model to automated, data-driven preventative maintenance for roads, bridges, and water systems extends the lifespan of infrastructure by years, preventing multi-million dollar emergency failures.
